December Meeting
Our next meeting will be on December 18th at 7:00 pm in room 106 of Petoskey High School. This month is our annual Christmas Party. We will be having a short meeting before hand to confirm our new officers for 2008 and then begin the festivites. Everyone seemed very happy with how we organized our party last year so we will be doing the same this year. We are asking that everyone bring their favorite holiday appetizer or snack to share. The club will be providing all the beverages, plates, cups, and silverware. Please let Annette know what you are bringing so we don't end up with ten of the same dish. You can call her at 526-5645 or email her at peewee2@glccomputers.com . Family and friends are welcome, so be sure to tell her how many people are coming so we can have enough plates and silverware. To help add to the Christmas cheer, check with some of our local hams that you haven't seen in a while and see if they need a ride to the party.
Straight Key Night
For all of you CW buffs or wannabes don't forget that Straight Key night is coming up. Here are the details from the ARRL website:
"The 2008 running of Straight Key Night begins at 7:00 p.m. EST December 31, 2007 and runs for 24 hours through 7:00 p.m. EST January 1, 2008 ( 0000 - 2400 UTC January 1, 2008). SKN is more of an operating event than a contest. To participate, simply send "CQ SKN" or listen for CQs that have SKN in them. The object of this friendly event is to enjoy some good old-fashioned QSO fun, using straight keys. The emphasis is on rag-chewing rather than fast contest-style exchanges. Take pleasure in sending and receiving CW sent without a computer or keyer, listen for the best fist you encounter, and be sure to tell us all about your activities. Even better, connect that straight key to some vintage gear you haven't used in a while. Many interesting QSOs take place during SKN, so be sure to let us know about a memorable QSO you have."
SAARC VEC
Here is the schedule of our test sessions for 2008. Please contact KG8JK, our test liaison, at least one week prior to the test date if you are planning on attending. We have several new VE's around so if you are one of them and would like to participate in the test session, give me a call. We would love to have you. Please call 231-348-5043 or email kg8jk@qsl.net. To save wear and tear on our small group of ve's, we will cancel a test session if no one signs up.

Bill DeMay Memorial Net Controllers
Here are your net controllers for the Monday night net. After the first of the year, Annette will no longer be acting as a net controller due to other commitments. Our plan is to give each of our remaining net controllers one net a month. On the other days we will have a "Wild Card" net controller. We used to do this when Bill would not be able to take the net. If he didn't show up, one of the people standing by would step in and run the net for the evening. It is not difficult (all you need is a pad of paper and a pen), it is great practice for controlling radio traffic during an emergency, and it is lots of fun. I will be making the schedule for the nets so if you would like be a net controller, just let me know and I can add you in whenever you would like to give it a try.
