February Meeting
It was great to see a lot of you at the Traverse City Swap. Hope everyone had a great time and found some great deals. Our next meeting will be on February 19 at 7:30 in Petoskey High School. Chuck Brew N8NXP will be presenting a presentation on the Mackinaw. This is a great opportunity to find out what is happening on the ship and how you can be a part of it. In March the National Weather Service will be here to give a weather spotter presentation and at a later date, Jerry Hollopeter KC8FAR will be giving a presentation on Slow Scan Television. We will be sure to keep you posted.
SAARC VEC
Here is the schedule of our test sessions for 2008. Please contact KG8JK, our test liaison, at least one week prior to the test date if you are planning on attending. We have several new VE's around so if you are one of them and would like to participate in the test session, give me a call. We would love to have you. Please call 231-348-5043 or email kg8jk@qsl.net. To save wear and tear on our small group of ve's, we will cancel a test session if no one signs up. We are also looking for someone to take over as the VE Liaison officer as I will be starting graduate school in the fall, which will require me to be gone most Saturdays. It is not a difficult or time consuming job and is a rewarding way to give back to the hobby
March 1st
June 7th
October 4th
December 6th
These dates are subject to change so be sure to check "The Static" for updates
Remember to bring a photo ID, a copy of your license and, if applicable, a copy of your "Certificate of Successful Completion of Element" you received at your last session. You will also need $14, a pen and pencil, and a calculator if you think you'll need it.

Bill DeMay Memorial Net Controllers
Here are your net controllers for the Monday night net. After the first of the year, Annette will no longer be acting as a net controller due to other commitments. Our plan is to give each of our remaining net controllers one net a month. On the other days we will have a "Wild Card" net controller. We used to do this when Bill would not be able to take the net. If he didn't show up, one of the people standing by would step in and run the net for the evening. It is not difficult (all you need is a pad of paper and a pen), it is great practice for controlling radio traffic during an emergency, and it is lots of fun. I will be making the schedule for the nets so if you would like be a net controller, just let me know and I can add you in whenever you would like to give it a try.
