January Meeting
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday January 15 at 7:30 in room 106 of Petoskey High School. We will be holding an extended elmer session, so bring all your questions.
Foxhunt Update
We have successfully changed the frequency of the foxhunt transmitter from 146.52 to 146.55 in order to avoid interference to the calling frequency. We are now ready to start building some antennas and attenuators so we can have an actual hunt. There are many different designs for antennas from yagis to loops. My favorite design is the "Tape Measure Beam" by Joe Leggio WB2HOL. It is a very simple design using pieces of tape measure for the elements and pvc for the boom. We already have some attenuators and will be doing some testing for anyone that is interested in trying it out. Here is the design for the beam if you are interested in building one.

SAARC VEC
Here is the schedule of our test sessions for 2008. Please contact KG8JK, our test liaison, at least one week prior to the test date if you are planning on attending. We have several new VE's around so if you are one of them and would like to participate in the test session, give me a call. We would love to have you. Please call 231-348-5043 or email kg8jk@qsl.net. To save wear and tear on our small group of ve's, we will cancel a test session if no one signs up.

Bill DeMay Memorial Net Controllers
Here are your net controllers for the Monday night net. After the first of the year, Annette will no longer be acting as a net controller due to other commitments. Our plan is to give each of our remaining net controllers one net a month. On the other days we will have a "Wild Card" net controller. We used to do this when Bill would not be able to take the net. If he didn't show up, one of the people standing by would step in and run the net for the evening. It is not difficult (all you need is a pad of paper and a pen), it is great practice for controlling radio traffic during an emergency, and it is lots of fun. I will be making the schedule for the nets so if you would like be a net controller, just let me know and I can add you in whenever you would like to give it a try.
