The Static |
June Meeting
This month we will be doing our annual clean up of the repeater site. We are very lucky to have such a great location for our repeater and at no charge to the club. For the past several years we have shown our appreciation by cleaning up the brush and weeds around the buildings and other structures at the site. We will be meeting at 7:00. Be sure to bring chainsaws, rakes, weed wackers, etc. The repeater site is located just off Stuttsmansville Rd. Turn at the Stuttsmansville township hall. Be sure to monitor the '68 repeater if you need help getting there. Don't forget all those other Northern Michigan necessities like sunscreen and bugspray.
Our July and August meetings will be held at the Petoksey waterfront. Be sure to check the Static for more details.
We also have a firm date for our Swap. It will be on Saturday October 25 in the Petoskey High School cafeteria.
Farewell
To be quite honest, I can't quite remember how long I have been the editor of The Static. I have always considered it to be an important part of our club as it is often the only way for many of our members to find out what is going on in the SAARC. As many of you know, I am starting my master's degree in Spanish this summer. So for the next several years, I will be quite busy traveling to CMU and studying. This means giving up many of my duties as part of the SAARC, including my job as the editor. We are still looking for someone to take over the job although we do have a few candidates in mind. I hope you have enjoyed The Static as much as I have enjoyed bringing it to you. -73 KG8JK
SAARC VEC
Due to my commitments I will no longer be available on Saturday mornings to provide testing. We are currently deciding whether to find another liaison person who can do the testing on Saturdays or change the test days to a weekday. If I continue as the liaison, we would have to switch to Mondays at 6:00 or so. If you have any suggestions, we would be happy to hear them. As of now, the October 4th and December 6th test sessions will be cancelled unless we find someone to take over as the liaison.

Bill DeMay Memorial Net Controllers
Here are your net controllers for the Monday night net. Cliff KC8NVI and DeWayne KC8LJX will be taking the first and third Mondays of the month. On the other days we will have a "Wild Card" net controller. One of the people standing by will step in and run the net for the evening. It is not difficult (all you need is a pad of paper and a pen), it is great practice for controlling radio traffic during an emergency, and it is lots of fun. If you are interested in signing up ahead of time for a particular Monday night, just let me know and I can add you in whenever you would like to give it a try.
