November Meeting
Our next meeting will be on November 20th at 7:30 pm in room 106 of Petoskey High School. This month is "Bring a Friend" month. If you have a friend who is interested in ham radio, bring them along to the meeting. There are also a lot of hams around who haven't been to a meeting for a while. Give them a call and offer to pick them up and bring them to the meeting.
As part of our program, we will be holding a Mini-Swap. Bring along a couple of items that you are looking to sell. After the business portion of the meeting, we will have everyone set their stuff out on the tables and you can enjoy some coffee and snacks while you browse through the items. If you have an antenna or tower that you want to sell, take a picture of it so you can show people what you have.
Fox Hunt
Mike Gilmore N5GKZ and I are working on organizing a foxhunt. We are looking to do our first one sometime this winter. Our plan is to use the club foxhunt transmitter. So far we have had good luck getting things working on both low and high power. We still haven't played with the setting which will allow you to run high power early on in the foxhunt and then drop the power down as the hunt progresses. We are planning on changing the frequency from 146.52 to 146.55 to prevent interference to the calling frequency. We have a nice antenna design which works well and is very economical to build. We still need to find some good (and inexpensive) attenuators, preferably in kit form so we can have a little project night. Let us know if you are interested and we will get you involved in the different projects and of course the hunt.
Cookie Report
Here is who will be bringing you treats for the next couple months at our club meeting. Just one other reason to attend.

SAARC VEC
Here is the schedule of our test sessions for 2008. Please contact KG8JK, our test liaison, at least one week prior to the test date if you are planning on attending. We have several new VE's around so if you are one of them and would like to participate in the test session, give me a call. We would love to have you. Please call 231-348-5043 or email kg8jk@qsl.net. To save wear and tear on our small group of ve's, we will cancel a test session if no one signs up.
January 5th - March 8th - April 7th
All sessions will be in room 106 of Petoskey High School at 10:00 am.
Remember to bring a photo ID, a copy of your license and, if applicable, a copy of your "Certificate of Successful Completion of Element" you received at your last session. You will also need $14, a pen and pencil, and a calculator if you think you'll need it.

Bill DeMay Memorial Net Controllers
Here are your net controllers for the Monday night net. After the first of the year, Annette will no longer be acting as a net controller due to other commitments. Our plan is to give each of our remaining net controllers one net a month. On the other days we will have a "Wild Card" net controller. We used to do this when Bill would not be able to take the net. If he didn't show up, one of the people standing by would step in and run the net for the evening. It is not difficult (all you need is a pad of paper and a pen), it is great practice for controlling radio traffic during an emergency, and it is lots of fun. I will be making the schedule for the nets so if you would like be a net controller, just let me know and I can add you in whenever you would like to give it a try.
