October Meeting
Our next meeting will be on October 16 at 7:30 pm in room 106 of Petoskey High School. Jack and Cristina Staats will be showing a PowerPoint presentation about their travels in Malta and how they used amateur radio from their boat. If you didn't make it to the last presentation they made, you missed a great program, so be sure to be there this time.
CW Meet-Up Net
Ok, to be honest, it really isn't a net, but I didn't know what else to call it. As a lot of you know, one of my favorite operating modes is Morse Code. Because of that, I always try to encourage people to learn CW and the best way to do that is to get on the air a make a few contacts. Several of our members headed over to the Gaylord area last Spring and attended a code class and quite a few of them commented on how they would like to get on the air and make a few contacts but they still didn't feel confident working QSOs. So, we are going to get together on Wednesday nights at 8:00 to give everyone a non-stress environment to make some CW contacts. We will start off on 28.350 USB and then pair up and move to a CW frequency to make some short QSOs. We will also be fielding any questions people have about working CW, abbreviations, procedures, etc. Again, this is not necessarily a net, just a place and time for us to meet. I will try to be there every week but if I am not, anyone who shows up is encouraged to pair off and work some code.

New NOAA Weather Station
In the past some of you may have felt a little isolated when it came to having up to date weather information, especially during severe weather. With only Gaylord and Traverse City as the closest NOAA transmitters, reception was difficult at times, and downright impossible if you were surrounded by the hills and trees that make Northern Michigan so beautiful. After quite a long wait and much work on the part of our local emergency groups, the National Weather Service has installed a NOAA weather transmitter in Goodhart. The transmitter operates on 162.475 and is supported by the National Weather Service office in Gaylord. Thank you to all of the amateurs who's input helped make this happen.
